Member Spotlight: Arnaud Falchier
This week, we’re shining a spotlight on CMC member, Arnaud Falchier, who gives us a closer look at his dance photography.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I fell in love with photography when I was five and my uncle gave me a polaroid to look after during the developing process. That was downright magic. I since then kept shooting the cities I lived in. Lyon in France and a few major cities in Europe before moving to the mesmerizing New York almost 15 years ago now.
What do you like to photograph, and why?
I love photographing the still life of buildings in cities and towns I spend some time in. About five years ago, I started photographing dancers both during performance, but also during more intimate sessions and that opened up a whole new chapter in my photography life.
Who is your favorite photographer?
I love so many for different reasons. Some names that come to mind: Harry Gruyaert, Mary Ellen Mark, Fred Herzog, Sabine Weiss, Joseph Koudelka, Arnold Newman, and Irving Penn to name a few.
Share three photos from a cohesive body of work, and tell us a little about it.
The photos I am sharing here are representative of my work in dance photography. I am working to develop an approach of these artists through photography that introduces elements that would be found in fashion or editorial.
