Member Spotlight: Carlos Juarbe
Our first Member Spotlight of February features one of CMC’s directors, Carlos “Los” Juarbe. Get to know Carlos in this short Q&A.
You shoot a lot of fashion and portrait photography. What draws you to that genre?
For me, being drawn to fashion and portrait photography comes from a passion for expressing individuality and authenticity. Style has always been a way to show a uniqueness of who you are and what you'd like to portray. The raw emotion of a portrait can take you into that person’s essence and almost make you feel where they've been and Where they are in their life.
What do you think makes a good portrait?
What makes a good photograph to me is a photo that evokes, triggers, or pleases a feeling in you through a captured moment.
As one of the newest directors of CMC, what are you leading? Do you have any goals for the group in 2021?
As one of the three amazing new directors, I'm going to lead the club into getting to know each other better. I want us to have a more comfortable understanding of who we are, share our photos, and critique our photos through group events like walks, trips and team building.
Can you please share some photos from your favorite session or project? Why are these your favorite?
My favorite project that I’ve worked on and created is this set from 2017. These photos were almost like a dream of mine. I incorporated the giraffe mask, and the fashion and location gives it some surrealism that even to this day I’m working on getting better at. It’s my favorite because it’s inspired me the most out of all my photos by learning how to put together a shoot from start to finish. I sourced the mask, shirt and purse myself, scouted the location, and got to work with a great model who helped bring my vision to life .
